About Swardwright

What this site is

Swardwright is a parameter archive for lawn and groundcover care. Every page on the site is built around measurable values: cutting height in millimetres, nitrogen in grams per square metre per year, aeration tine spacing in millimetres, irrigation in millimetres per week. Prose exists to explain those numbers, not to decorate them.

The site covers three things only. Grass profiles, one per species, each carrying the same four bench values plus the supporting parameters that follow from them. Operations, one per mechanical or input job, each with its depth, spacing, timing window and calibration. Symptom reading, one per field symptom, each traced back to the parameter that caused it rather than to a product.

Where the numbers come from

Values are drawn from published extension and turfgrass-science material and from commercial maintenance specifications, then normalised to millimetres, grams per square metre and degrees Celsius so that species and operations can be compared directly. Where sources disagree, the site prints a band rather than a single figure, because a range is the honest answer for a living plant in an uncontrolled root zone.

Every species profile, operation and symptom page shows the parameters it is built from. If you change one value, the pages that depend on it change with it — that is the point of a parameter archive rather than a set of tips.

What this site is not

Swardwright is not a product retailer and carries no affiliate links. It is not a pest-control or plant-health service and cannot diagnose your lawn from a photograph. It does not recommend a specific brand of fertiliser, mower or seed; where a product analysis is used in a worked example, it is there to show the arithmetic of converting a nitrogen target into a weight of product you have to weigh out.

Nothing on this site is a substitute for a soil test, a local extension recommendation or the judgement of a licensed applicator working on your ground. Pesticide and herbicide decisions in particular depend on local registration, and the site does not make them for you.

How the site is maintained

Pages are dated and released on a schedule rather than all at once, so the archive grows in a predictable order. Each release is a complete page, not a draft. The publication date shown on a page is the date it was released; the parameters on it stay as published, and a later page that supersedes a value will say so in its own text.
